Close, but no winner!

Well you were all right on one thing, it is an eye! It is actually an eye attached to a whitetail buck! That is what my page this month will feature. The reason I went with this as my subject matter is that November is a hard month for me. I am an extreme animal lover. I understand all the reasons for deer hunting. I understand that the population would explode and there would be more car-deer collisions, more crop and property damage, starving deer etc. I understand all of that, and my husband is an avid deer hunter too! What I don't understand is the pleasure people get from killing a magnificent animal. My husband relives his kills and gets this look in his eyes that I only see when he talks deer hunting/killing. He becomes obsessed! He watches these shows about deer hunting and I just cringe. The narrator on the show says "Isn't this a beautiful buck" and I want to yell NO, its not beautiful anymore, its DEAD! It is one thing my husband and I don't see eye-to-eye on. So, for this page i am celebrating all the beautiful live bucks and doe out there! Sorry if I have offended anyone on my view on deer hunting. Its just my opinion!

Tracey Tracey Tracey - I so relate to your post! You and I live in the same world. Archery season has just started here and my husband has entered his 'game' mode. I too am just heartsick over the whole killing process, even knowing its purpose is to thin the herd blah blah blah. I for the life of me cannot understand how seeing this or any magnificent creature in the woods and have only one goal - to destroy it. Weird. And the fact that there is a whole channel (or maybe more) dedicated to hunting drives me crazy. And thanks to the DVR we can listen to that obnoxious whisering of the TV hunters rehashing the hunt almost continually AAGGHH! thanks for listening ;) I love that you are going to do this piece this month--so clever!

You know that I am right here with you on this one! You would have thought I would have been smart enough not to marry a hunter after going up in a family of hunters! UGH!

I love your sketch of the LIVE buck!

Love you!

Wonderful post! I can relate as well. I used to live with a hunter. I even went hunting once... all I learned is that I never want to do THAT again.

I look forward to seeing your completed piece!

Oh my gosh, I am right there with you, just the thought of 'killing season' is so sad to me. I thank the lord that my husband agrees with me on that point, but my brother of all people is a hunter, and where he got that gene I will never know because my dad never was a hunter. They have quail season out near me, and when it began in August we could hear the shots first thing in the morning...what a great way to start your day huh??? So sad...I think your buck piece will be full of heartfelt beading.

I have so many thoughts on this subject I would offend so many if I post what I think!

I can't even stand to see a squirrel hit by a car and have been known to chase down the car that was driving too fast past my house and let em have it!!

I was driving down the road and a deer out of nowhere leaped over the hood of car. It was one of the most magestic sights I will ever remember.

You honor wildlife with your November page.

You've been tagged, tracey...and I sadly agree on the hunting thing...my husband has hunted for food, but he was not happy about it.

It puzzles me why hunters feel so great after having killed a beautiful, innocent creature. Why are they not unhappy and ashamed of themselves, even if they say they "have to" do this? It just is not a heroic deed to kill a living being anawares and on a totally unfair footing. Would hunters want to be hunted? Disgusting!

Your BJP page, sort of a consolation, is going to be great, I am looking forward to seeing it finished.

I figure the only ones who should be given a hunting license are those who have been shot at themselves. I can understand hunting for food but the truth is most of the hunters do it for joy. Killing a scared, unarmed animal is fun? I will not call it a sport as their is no sportsmanship to it. Put a team of little boys against their dads for football and you'd have something similar yet not even nearly as bad. My dad told his neighbor's kids to take cameras instead and you know what, they did!
